WSJ Packages 2011 - Travelling to Kandersteg
Kandersteg and Kristianstad in Sweden are less than 15 hours away by road. Plenty of connections by different ways of transport make it very easy to travel from the World Scout Centre to the World Scout Jamboree.
The Swiss international airports of Geneva, Zurich and Basel are located only 3 hours away from Kandersteg by road. Zurich and Geneva Airport have an integrated train station that connects straight to the main Swiss railway. Basel Airport have a shuttle bus that connects to Basel train station in less than 20 minutes. Many mainstream airlines, as well as low cost, operates in these three airports.
Milano Malpensa, the top Italian international airport in terms of international traffic, is only 177km away from Kandersteg and can be reached by train in about 4 hours. Some 50 airlines from all around the World fly to Malpensa and the airport has its own train station, from where you can connect to trains to Switzerland. Milano Orio al Serio and Milano Linate, two secondary airports serving the city, are used by many European low-cost airlines.
Low-cost airlines such as Norwegian Shuttle, Ryanair, Easyjet, Cimber Air and Germanwings, and mainstream airlines Swiss, Alitalia and SAS operates flights from Switzerland/Milan to Sweden or Copenhagen (closest airport to the World Scout Jamboree site).
Kandersteg has its own train station, connected to the European railway system with routes via Bern, Basel or Brig. The Swiss train system is well known worlwide for being punctual, multi lingual and easy to use - and that is a fact. Famous European cities such as Frankfurt, Lyon, Stuttgart, Paris, Venice, Innsbruck or Torino are less than 6 hours away by train. Many other connections and night trains can take you to or from cities such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Rome or London.

Of course, you can also reach Kandersteg by car. If you are coming from the North, the motorway will take you to Spiez, at only 30 minutes from Kandersteg. If you are coming from the South (or Italy), then you will have to drive to Goppenstein and then take the car-train through the mountains to Kandersteg. Either way, reaching Kandersteg by road is very easy.
It is not possible to reach Kandersteg by public bus (this has been replace by the train). However, the bus station in Bern have services to many destinations in Europe, including the famous Eurolines network.
