August 1st 2016
Every year on the 1st of August, people across Switzerland celebrate the country's National Day with parades, bonfires and fireworks. Also on the same day, in the year 1907, several boys came together with Robert Baden-Powell to begin the world's first scout camp on Brownsea Island in England.
Here at KISC, we celebrate both of these events on August 1st! Our guests and staff from around the world come together for a really special day, full of international fun, friendship and adventure!
We will begin the day with everyone joining together for breakfast on the campsite; whether you are cooking for yourselves or being catered for by KISC, you will all eat together. You then have the opportunity to join the drop-in activities that will be on offer around the Scout Centre and the Village. All these activities will run until the early afternoon, when the carnival will open. For the carnival we would love groups to bring a game, an activity, or even some food from their country to share with all the other scouts. We we also have a talent competition, and our infamous William Tell Play! As is now tradition, the day will culminate with a Scout parade through the streets of Kandersteg after a short ceremony in front of the historic Chalet.
The whole day will give all of our guests the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of international friendship unique to KISC, and to feel the realisation of BP's dream of a permanent mini jamboree. Meet the world up in the Alps this August 1st!

During the week of 30th July 2016 to 6th August 2017, the weekly activity timetable will be slightly different to the usual. Leaders Gathering will take place on Monday 31st July instead of Sunday 30th July - this will inform the Leaders all of the details for the special day. We will not hold International Evening on Monday 31st - but the carnival on August 1st is the perfect place to showcase your country instead! You will be able to download the schedule for this week closer to the time.
